The animal kingdom means the world to me, and today I lost a very, very special member of it, Rainie The Cat. Rainie was a big old boy, but he needed to be a large kitty to hold all of his personality. I was lucky enough to live with Rainie for about 3 years, and in that time I saw him befriend and show my young male cat, Benjamin the ropes, and how to play like a boy...even if that playing was one of them sitting in a box and the other sitting outside the box while they stared at each other for hours. I also saw Rainie do other amazing things like just sit at the top of the staircase and puff out his white chest, and scare my fearless puppy, Molly, back down those stairs with just that action. I never once saw Rainie run from any of the 3 dogs he lived with while he lived here. Rainie was the smartest cat ever....he figured out how to say the word Mom with his meows, and Im quite sure he knew he melted her heart with each one. He was absolutely gorgeous. He was mostly a very deep slate gray, with a puffy white chest, and a white sock on every foot. I know as badly as Im hurting, as all of us Finnigans are, Rainies Mom, Laurie Piencikowski, has got to be going crazy with a broken heart.....and she has every right to be. Im not going to say any of the stupid things people always say when you have a pet die because they are considered to be magic words of wisdom, and will make you feel better....they are all a load of crap. Rainies life was cut short, and I worry for not just his Moms sadness, but his littermate, Callies, as well. There is nothing I can say or do that will even begin alleviate either of their pain. sadness, sense of loss, or confusion.....so if there are any of you out there who have a pet....I dont care if its a cat, a dog, a horse, or a turtle.....take a second when you read this....dont worry about Rainie, he will be fine in Kitty heaven, Im sure trying to be in charge, and eating all the chip dip he wants whenever he wants it......think a good thought for Callie and Laurie today as they begin to make their way through this Hell of a maze called Grief. RIP, Rainie....we love you, The Finnigans
