The army backed interim government has decided to dissolve the legal registration of the Islamist party; Muslim Brotherhood, within days. The move is short of a formal ban but it underlines the resolve of the government to crush the Brothers. This is a very Egyptian way to deal with its opponents and in many respect it is consistent with the way Islamic societies function all around the globe, particularly in the Arab world. After all, the army ousted Mr. Morsi without much international condemnation and killed more than a thousand of Mr. Morsi’s supporters with relative ease. This may prompt many analysts to predict the dawn of emergence of a new non-West or at least the doom of the US-led West. In fact, it is neither of them. The West led by the US is playing a bloody game: of converting Islamic societies on their own because of the mismatch between their own evolutions and recent psychological evolutions partly imported from the West. The fact is that the West as an entity understands better than anyone else that social websites, other internet services, modern helps etc would not always act as a positive addition to Islamic societies. Also, that democracy is not their norm. So why not support ‘Post American world’ theories and give them freedom to do whatever they want to. Now, it would not be much hard to find which way majority of Islamic societies would like to go: towards more sectarianism, more nationalism, more consumerism and more vocalism. All these would indeed help the West; the US maximum. Now if left to themselves, which is not always easy, possible and even affordable, then this could lead to second ‘genuine’ revolution in which many Arabs would even question the credibility of Islam and derived institutions. That appears possible with in a decade. The West would not mind much as in the meantime even nationalism is enough to let its interests sustained in all possible locations. The sectarianism and identity issues would grapple the Islamic societies more than at anytime in their histories. Now the divisions of nation-states is not possible on sectarian lines neither the West would ever support it. Simultaneously, Moslems cannot be converted. So what’s the option left in middle-to-long term for Moslems? The answer is to become consumerist Islamists with a small part of dominant population becoming ‘practically’ atheist. The West would support such evolution.
