The art of letter writing. How many of you actually sit down and write letters? And I am not talking about typing one on the computer. That does not count!! What I am talking about is using stationary or a card and sitting down and using a pen and writing a letter, licking an envelope and putting a stamp on it and mailing it!! I remember when I was a young girl. I got a desk. That was a big deal. I can still remember it. I would go and buy stationary at the Ben Franklin store or a Hallmark store if I had extra money and actually sit and write letters. I had a friend that I had met in San Francisco one summer while staying with my great aunt and uncle. She moved to New York with her family and we wrote weekly. When my husband went into the Navy we also wrote all the time. Once we married he continued to write me letters wherever he was during his career. And he would send postcards because he knew I loved getting the stamps on them. I saved each and every one of those letters and they are put away. Twenty five years of letters that he wrote to me. Now it is so much more simple to just pick up the phone and communicate or email. The art of letter writing is disappearing. There are days I long to sit at a desk like this and just write letters. But in reality who has time? Isnt it sad that are lives have become so complex and busy that we dont have time to jot a few words down to a family member or two? When was the last time you did this?
