The article, Unemployment Among Black Youth 393% Higher Than National Rate was written in 2013. Today stats still high. As quiet as it is kept, Black youth face a hard life in a locked down, locked up,shut them down and shoot them down world. I know some people might dismiss this as an exaggeration as they did when I first started breaking the silence in 2007 on state sanctioned murder. We are sitting on a powder keg- young Black people will not submit to a lifetime of being pushed aside and being seen as suspects in a society where Bill Moyers recently reminded us is fast losing its grip on democracy while sliding dangerously down the well of an oligarchy. Young people remind us in their freedom chant that they have nothing to lose but their chains. They are willing to be regarded or go for broke. It is time for elders to stand up and say that Black youth do have more to lose than their chains. They have a community that loves and values them and will not sit silently while they struggle to breathe in this America that shuts off their air.
