The article is written a little amateurishly, but the stats and the message are right on the money. As someone who has issues with both bipolar disorder and substance abuse, and given my experience so far in terms of treatment and management of the illnesses... yeah, you gotta stomp on both monsters at the same time. And yeah... when youre bipolar, and in your mind youre in Manhattan, in Central Park, and everythings on fire, and theres bees everywhere... well, youll use any kind of drug that works to make that chaos go away. Anything to soothe the chaos. But you have options. Theres help available. The first steps are to recognize theres a problem, and then to ask for help. Do it.
