The artist would sit at the potters wheel with the lake a short - TopicsExpress

The artist would sit at the potters wheel with the lake a short distance from the window. Due to a macular degenerative eye condition, the East Alabama resident couldnt see the water, but knew it was there. The presence calmed her. Shed sit until she felt moved to create, enjoying the overwhelming peace the stillness provided. At the proper moment, shed turn on the wheel, and a clump of clay would become art. This particular scene resonated with me. Robin Rutledge Rogers says she would not be an artist were it not for the eye condition. Id be too distracted, she said. God sits like the lake, beckoning us to sit in His presence and find peace. We dont have to see Him to know Hes there as long as were able to mute the distractions of the world. If sometimes we would simply be still, stay unmoved, until we understood His will, I wonder at the art wed create out of the mess which sits in our hands. And also know what we consider a handicap, a misstep, a tragedy, God will use to bring out His purpose for our lives. ~ I had the pleasure of interviewing my friend and East Alabama resident, Robin Rutledge Rogers, who creates incredible functional and artistic pottery. The article will be in the next issue of East Alabama Living magazine. Lets encourage each other today to trust in His presence even if we cant see Him with our eyes. Hes there, waiting to provide a peace which surpasses all understanding in any situation. ~
