The attached file is a record of an official warning from the USDA for violations of the Animal Welfare Act. The warning is issued to an exhibitor of performing dogs, not elephants. Im posting because this exhibitor travels with Cole Bros Circus who we closely follow because of their elephant act. Many of you organize protests when Cole is in your area, and this is good information to give to the media and the public. It is worth mentioning that one of these violations took place in Port St Lucie, FL, a city that requires a local veterinarian to be on site (we contacted the veterinarian at ARFFs request to ask him not to support the circus - see post on Nov. 13, 2014); not surprisingly, it looks like Cole was in violation of that city requirement. Mostly, Im posting this to remind everyone of the importance of getting out to the circus when its in your area; these dogs were observed to be in pain, complaints were filed, and now a warning has been issued that could provide useful ammunition in our fight against circuses, and Cole Bros in particular. I know Ive said this before but I cannot emphasize it enough: there are plenty of ways that you can take useful action when a circus is in your town but getting in there and documenting the conditions of the animals should be at the very top of your list.
