The attached photos will give an indication of the work carried out yesterday to construct a bridge over a brook behind the Old Strip Mine which connects to a trail that travels from that location to the trail behind the Airport leading to Cow Bay Road. This adventure started earlier in the week when Gordon determined that the best way to ensure the water would not wash the structure away in the spring or during a storm, because of the steep approaches to the brook, was to insert two concrete blocks, which the Club purchased, Gordon picked them up on Thursday and delivered them to the site. Darryl, with the use of his Skiddster, unloaded the blocks and positioned them above the brook. On Friday, as arranged by Gary, a large truck arrived out on Lingan Road, to meet Blair who with the use of a back hoe, dragged the poles from Dan’s back yard, positioned them (one at a time) along the shoulder of the busy highway, lifted one end onto the large truck, pushed the pole into the truck and they were delivered to the Old Strip Mine location. On Sunday, Gary and Dan hauled the poles up the hill to a location above the brook. George then assisted by placing them with care, without disturbing the brook, he also swung the poles in place. Harvey sent the lumber he had on hand into the site on Sunday, delivered by Bob Ling. Dave P. and Dave M. purchased additional lumber from Doug on Sunday to complete this 40 foot bridge. The assembly team of Gordon, Bernie, Andrew, Dave P., Dave M., Justin, Lynden, Mike and Dan worked together to complete the task. It was a good project, aided by people working together and now, the bridge is in place and there is no fear of problems getting across the brook. Thanks to all who had a hand in this project.
