The audio is posted on the CUSD website from the July 23rd meeting on facilities updates for schools located in community facilities districts (CFDs) and surplus special taxes that have been collected by CUSD. Tim Brown and Susie Hattan speaking on the fair taxation of Talega residents can also be heard here, as can Trustee Jim Reardon who shared some important insights on spending of CFD monies. He stated there is no relationship between the needs and available funding and we cannot connect the two to make people from CFD communities pay for all the needs. He cited the two speakers (Tim and Susie) who brought up fairness and equity, reiterating that the issue of CFD funding comes down to fairness and equity and we need to look at the impact of a new community. These CFD communities paid their dues and the school district built the facilities and thats done, while common or specific needs must be proportionate to the impact of the community, citing as an example, how Talega has fewer than 5% impact on the entire school district.
