The average employee creates around 1 GB of data annually, and the Compliance, Governance and Oversight Counsel found that typically only 25 percent of that information has real business value, 5 percent must be kept as business records, and 1 percent is retained due to litigation holds. For companies examining, and looking to optimize, their information governance strategy, that means that nearly 70 percent of information in most companies has no tangible business, legal or regulatory value. So, just like most of the stuff on my 250 GB drive, if it is pretty much useless, why keep it?
