The ball thumped like a cheap drum snare as it bounced down the sidewalk and rolled into the leaf littered gutter. The cool Autumn air carried the smell of the recent rain as a low rumble of thunder growled from a distant horizon. My eyes were blurry, my body weak, and my breathing heavy as I sat down on the steps. I watched the neighborhood children play ball and my memory drifted back to a much younger me and a kickball game in my own back yard. Where was me a shooting star so I could wish away the years I wasted and redo em all again? All I seem to see ahead of me is The End. JWP
