The bar will always chase the shoulders: I teach my athletes that at the 2nd Pull (aka jump, aka extension) the bar will initially travel wherever the shoulders are located at that moment. If the shoulders are in front of the bar (forward tilt of the torso) the bar will start traveling that direction. However, if the shoulders are behind the bar at this moment, the bar will track more vertically and head backwards towards the athlete, which is what we want. This means the athlete must delay their jump and remain PATIENT before extending into the 2nd Pull. If coaches can teach their athletes to wait a bit longer, instead of rushing into the jump, then they no longer have to chase it by either hoping forward or diving their chest forward. The error of jumping too soon is common. Why? Because were all more explosive, and agile, on the balls of our feet. So, it feels natural to distribute our weight onto the toes but the problem is that it will ruin bar path. By waiting for the shoulders to come back behind the bar right before the 2nd Pull, we can be certain we have better bar control. Yes, its possible to be just as explosive by waiting for the shoulders to be in the right place at the right time. How? Practice!
