The beauty of Kobarid is almost unsettling for me. Other than some broken down trenches and caves carved into the mountainsides there is little else to remind one of the carnage of WW I. More Americans, at least, need to learn more about WWI. For the average American, the only world history they seem to know took place between 1938 and 1948. WW II--that so-called good war--was very bad for the pseudo-lessons it taught us. So now every new enemy is another Hitler and every effort at compromsie is another appeasement. We would be better off focusing on WW I which reflects more accurately the last 5000 years of human history, with its arrogance, misundstandings, paranoia, and stupidity.
