The beauty of Ramadan is that fasting helps strengthens the mind and helps one conquer your nafs (weakness). It also reminds us of the less fortunate who are refugees and homeless and without food, so that we can have compassion towards them and be grateful for all the barakat (blessings) that we have, but often take for granted. Islamic fasting involves no water and no food consumption from 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset. Despite my endocrinolgist and Medical Doctor stating not to fast because of my diabetes, I am determined to keep all my fasts. It is easy, just a mindset, to not focus on food. Teaching my daughters to do half day (2-4 hour) liquid fasts (where they can drink water but not eat). When one trains at an early age, fasting is easy. I began training fasting when I was 9 years old. On June 29th, Eid Day, when the end of Ramadan is celebrated my objective is to have kept all my fasts and finished the feature screenplay for Priyanka Chopra set in the Islamic World. Insha Allah.
