The beggars are coming to town....an acrostic by Toni-Ann Sabrina Lima. Smiles and tumble, the Utopia circus of the mind, Openly they laugh, inwardly they squander... Men to slow for the rat race, were these left behind, Excited to be alive they twirl tops in the mud from never ending polluted river.. If they play, they make but noble laugh and poet write, No one understood how living in charade could be such art! Rioting on a stage they develop a improvised fight for right, Aging in those roles till death, do they part... Green girls, red boys and green boys and red girls! See them dancing to the harp fast and slow! Jumping out of the wings and upstaging their swirls and twirls... And they wait till the greater audience begins to grow.. Gangster leader wears his tags with pride as he struts through the theatre, Sailing on his arm a queen in costly looking gown... All but old rags that eccentric minds see as royals from another time, Now they talk, they feel, another they mime as painted clown, Distant memory fill their presence and connects their antics in the prime... Villain and joker, knave and fool, there is madness to how they rule! Eccentric words on an ethnocentric stage of particular values... Lady ignores those barking dogs, like the kingdom fool... Vicious rumours they sing in a hark of blues. Enter left they dance, on the right they sing! To the centre an actor chants, and in the ring of patrons the fencing begins... Grey soldiers gossip of this outrageous fling, Old wives call them dirty beggars...fishes without fins... Weary at the end of every days show they bring, Night emerges again and their pamphlets fill the rubbish bins...
