The best laid plans of mice and men do sometimes go astray. Yep. - TopicsExpress

The best laid plans of mice and men do sometimes go astray. Yep. Found our 10-year-old Quarter Horse gelding, Ribbit, in a shocky state, trembling at the gate to the back pasture, just waiting for someone to come help him. He was battered and muddy, on the head and both sides, with the worst injury a deep cut that nearly encircled the right rear foot, up under the heel bulbs in the back. Two of our staff, Morgan Moisi and Jenna Hesselink, got him to the barn and we called the vet. Newly hired veterinarian Dr. Bernadette Grisman arrived to assess the damage by the time we were finishing our opening circle. The deep cut looks bad-- but we wont know how bad until tomorrow. Ribbit is now on IV antibiotics, pain meds/anti-inflammatories at the clinic. They may need to lay him down tomorrow, once the swelling goes down some, to do a complete cleaning of the wound and evaluation of the damage. We are hoping for no tendon involvement and no infection. Unfortunately, the wound was muddy from irrigation. The bonus was that the kids got to see Dr. Grisman and Jessica Grahams twin sister Nicole, vet tech, at work. The rest of the day went well. We will hear more about Ribbit by noon tomorrow.
