The best thing I received for Christmas was being with family. My - TopicsExpress

The best thing I received for Christmas was being with family. My siblings kids reminded me of us growing up and ripping through the Christmas gifts while our uncles and aunts watched. Cousins and their wonderful wives add additional laughter and memories. One gift I opened from my big sis Alicia Arnold was a box full of ingredients and snacks my grandfather use to buy. When we lived at 54 Waltham St in Boston, my grandfather would make authentic restaurant style meals for dinner. There are two dishes, beef and a fish dish that I loved. The beef dish had hints of bacon, a type of liquor, string beans , scallions and some other missing ingredient. The fish dish is a bit difficult because the taste was so unique. Today I am still perfecting the beef and fish dishes. I will figure out the fish dish because the taste still lives with me. My grandfather would bring home different types of beef jerky, dried prunes and dried squid for snacks... these things brought me back to my childhood. There was also the house fried rice, my grandmother made... that will never be figured out. It is strange how a gift could trigger wonderful memories from the past. Both my grand parents were excellent chefs, I guess thats why I am such a critical person when it comes to food. At one time in my grandfathers life he did have a restaurant. Maybe thats why my siblings and myself love to cook. Enough rambling and talking about strange snacks and ingredients my sister got me for Christmas, enjoy your family.
