The best thing about this list is that it includes a huge number of movies that I have never even heard of, let alone seen. And many of them look amazing. Like the film represented by the thumbnail photo for example. Hannibal Brooks tells the story of a British POW who is put in charge of the elephants at the Munich Zoo, and who then attempts to flee to Switzerland with one of the beasts, after the city is bombed. And I would never have thought to include Leni Riefenstahls monumental work of propaganda Triumph of the Will on a list of World War II movies. Number 31 on the list is Downfall which plays out in the Führerbunker during the last days of the Third Reich. I havent seen it, except in a couple of dozen different youtube videos that people create by replacing the subtitles with absurd ones. Some of them are hilarious. Number 1 on the list is a 1985 movie titled Come and See. I have never heard of that one, but am certainly going to make a point of watching it. Lastly, I really cant disagree with the decision to rank 1981s Escape to Victory as number 50 on the list. It was completely contrived and implausible. The decision to include Stallone was made only with an eye to the American movie market. And while the soccer match in the film was a complete fiction, there actually was a so-called Death Match played during World War II. Only it was between Germans and Ukrainians, and showing that couldnt possibly be profitable at the box office. So, they moved the setting to occupied France and essentially made a very long Hogans Heroes episode.
