The best thing the capital ruling class has going for it is that the vast majority of people who labor in its behalf identify themselves not as working class but as middle class. They do this even when they only eke out a living from one paycheck to the next. They do this even when they are just one serious illness away from bankruptcy. They do this, yes, even when they work for a living. So eager to distance themselves from the people they have been inculcated to scorn, members of the middle class think the issues of working people are not their issues; and in perhaps the most historic example of the Stockholm syndrome, they look upon their oppressor as their benefactor, one whom they admire and seek to emulate. But if you cannot survive but by selling your labor for a wage, if you cannot support yourself except by hawking your labor out to the benefit and enrichment of an employer, then you are part of the honorable working class. So embrace it and let us unite with our fellow working brothers and sisters for the common good and for the overturn of the system of patriarchy and capital which holds us all in chains.
