The bible spoke of giants or men of renown in Genesis being the cause of God destroying the earth. When people begin to receive the worship in place of God, His wrath and judgments come. The very desire to be renown or famous is contradictory to the formula for being a believer. The desire to be more than what we were created to be comes from Satan and is what tempted Eve in the garden. This same temptation is plaguing our homes, churches, and society as a whole. If we do not decrease and allow God to increase, we will soon see His wrath and vengeance upon those that disobey. Our desire should be to show Christ and deny ourselves. Eph. 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Eph. 5:7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. Eph. 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: The Holy Spirit comes into our lives to cause us to walk in God’s power and not our own. Though we are confident and secure in God, we are not haughty and high minded. 1Tim. 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; We must decrease in our own way and fully accept the way of God in order to walk in His authority. Acts 19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. Walking in God’s authority requires self-denial and contentment on a daily basis. Trusting God for our future is contingent upon trusting God with our present! We should be content in our present state and not focused on the future. Phil. 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Selfish ambition is the desire and determination to achieve success for personal recognition. This opposes the will of God. Phil. 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. What we achieve in this life should be for the sake of others, not for ourselves. Even though we desire to feel good, we should feel good when others feel good. Gal. 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. In order to see God operate through us, we must be poor in spirit. This means we must decrease our selfish pursuits and allow God to reign in our lives. Matt. 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
