The biggest concert featuring foreign artists ever held in Da Nang City is set to take place on Monday night. British Cellist Zoë Martlew, Norwegian violist Atle Sponberg and Vietnamese pianist Nguyen Bich Tra will perform together in a grand concert at Nguyen Hien Dinh Tuong Theater (155 Phan Chau Trinh Street, Hai Chau District) at 8:00 pm. The event, called “Danang Chamber Music,” will be broadcast live on the DRT television channel of the city which is located in central Vietnam. Pianist Nguyen Bich Tra, also known as Tra Nguyen, is one of the country’s renowned pianists. She graduated from the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory in 1997. Two years later, she completed an advanced performance course at the Royal Academy of Music in London and went on to obtain her master’s degree at the College of Music and Media there. Tra has performed across Europe since. British cellist Zoe Martlew, who was on the jury of a BBC music contest for youth, has performed the world over. Norwegian violist Atle Sponberg is active as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra leader, and has put on performances at festivals all over Europe, the U.S., and Australia. An exchange program titled “Learn How to Play Chamber Music” will also be organized at Nguyen Hien Dinh Tuong Theater at 9:30 am the next day. The three artists will join the exchange and share their skills and experience in practicing and performing chamber music. The will also give presentations on the growth of different chamber music mainstreams during the 20th century. Earlier Tra, Martlew, and Sponberg had a successful performance as part of the “Saigon Chamber Music” festival in Ho Chi Minh City on August 2. “Saigon Chamber Music” is the latest cooperation between the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, the British Council, and Transposition Program, a collaborative organization of Norway and Vietnam aiming to promote the Southeast Asian country’s musical development. This was the first time that the festival, modeled after the summer music festivals which are popular in the U.S. and UK, had been hosted in Vietnam. The event is expected to be held annually starting this year, according to the organizers. Like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter to get the latest news about Vietnam!
