The biggest football fiesta on the planet has finally arrived and would kick off in a matter of days. The hosts are ready, the fans are ready !!! GROUP A Brazil Croatia Cameroon Mexico As hosts, Brazil are widely expected to make it to the Final on July 12 as they aim to build on their Confederations cup success. I’m betting on Brazil to claim the top spot in this group and Croatia should be a worthy second with at least five points and qualify ahead of the Mexicans on a superior goal difference. The Cameroonian side can’t pull any surprises in this group and I don’t even see them winning a single match in Brazil. Samuel Eto’o alone cannot make a forest. #GROUP B Spain Netherlands Australia Chile I fancy the defending champions, Spain claiming the top spot ahead of Netherlands and Chile. It’s going to be a straight fight for second spot in the last match as Chile and Netherlands will be squaring up against each other. With their array of stars, Netherlands should claim the second spot in this group ahead of Chile and Australia. #GROUP C Colombia Japan Ivory Coast Greece Even without talismanic striker Radamel Falcao, Colombia still have enough firepower in their squad to top this group. The South Americans attack is still blessed with the likes of James Rodriguez and Freddy Guarin who are capable of holding their own in front of goal. The battle for second place should be a terrific one as all teams involved are capable of claiming it. Due to experience and team chemistry the core of their squad has had together for years, many will be expecting Cote d’Ivoire to make it through. But Greece are a very well-drilled side with collective determination and are very unpredictable and the Japanese; a dangerous attacking side with lots of technical ability . I don’t expect any team to end up with zero points at the end of it all. #GROUP D England Italy Costa Rica Uruguay The Italians are bookies favourite to top this group but recent results from friendlies have put some doubt on that but one will still expect them to be a completely different team when the tournament starts. Uruguay boasts of three of the best attacking players in the tournament with their front trio of Cavani, Forlan and Suarez but their major problem has been their defence where they concede 25 goals in 16 qualifying matches and I see this being their Achilles. England have taken more youth than experience to the tournament and I expect it to bear fruit for them. They should at least reach the quarter final where from there anything can happen. Honduras will be the whipping boys of the group and will take the tournament as a learning platform. I will put forward Uruguay and England to go through.
