The biggest hindrances to real and lasting change are not the elders or older generation; its the youths. The very notion that we only have two options to choose from and we must choose is the root of all our problems. If Buhari and co had settled for the options available back then; they would not have led a coup to remove those in power then; they would have chosen to be obedient to the rule of the land and support the dictatorship. If Tafawa Balewa, Zik, Awo and co had settled for the options available, they wouldnt have fought the colonial invaders and gain independence; they would have chosen to be obedient and peace-loving citizens and remain obediently colonised. If Ojukwu had settled for the options available to him, he wouldnt have declared Biafra as a means to stop the suffering of his people. If Fela had settled for the options available, he would have played with his band, Kola Lobito and made enough money, he wouldnt have confronted dictator over dictator and place his life on the line over and over again. Mandela, Steve Biko, Castro, etc, uf they had settled for the options available, apartheid will remain and their lands will still be enslaved. This generation is filled with compliant people who pride themselves on their ability to conform and blend into a dysfunctional system. They find everything wrong with people who want to think differently and they wear their own compliance like a jewelry and flaunt it shamelessly. A generation that leaves anything worth remembering will think differently, question existing protocols and policies, and do things differently. It wont be a generation that is satisfied with being P.As and Special Assistants and chant names of quarter to dead politicians. It has to be a generation that dares. A generation that thinks and understands that they have limitless options and that the world is theirs; its only waiting to be conquered. I represent the Third Option. I believe in it. James Ogunjimi
