The biggest issue with poverty today, as I see it, is that our society and culture have shifted dramatically in the last 100 years, but our ways of dealing with it havent. For instance, 100 years ago, if my child was hungry, I could grab a weapon, hike out, kill something, and feed it to my child. Today that is illegal, In fact hunting is very, very expensive! 100 years ago, if I needed a roof over my head, I could go chop down some trees and make one, today that is illegal. Our means of fixing our own situation have all but vanished. Today, if your kid is hungry, you need money, period. If you need a roof, you need money, period. How do you get money? You have to convince someone else to give it to you in exchange for something. there is literally no means of self sufficiency left. Today, it takes money to make money... Go gold panning? Nope, someone else owns those rights, and you have to pay for them. Go logging? Nope, someone else owns those rights too. Without money today to buy some rights, you are trapped...
