The biggest joy of being a working mother is often found in the ability to laugh in near-panic moments. I was in deep working mode past midnight last night whilst Jade was working on an Afrikaans poster about her life when I had to translate words for her across the dining-room table. (Yes, to my deep shame my child has almost completely lost her ability to write in her once mother-tongue). We were both deliriously tired when she translated my favourite food is avocado to my gunsteling kos is appelkooskonfyt (my favourite food is apricot jam).. That was it - I was finished! Monday started in all shades of blue and ended in stitches of laughter. It reminded me to never stop laughing and to throw apricot jam at life when it all gets too much sometimes..
