The biggest story in Zambia today is the shortage of ARVs and it - TopicsExpress

The biggest story in Zambia today is the shortage of ARVs and it should reflect as such in the media especially public media. And yet today’s edition of the Daily Mail is leading with “LAZ defends Chibesakunda” while the Post leads with “MMD RIFT WIDENS”. I haven’t see the Times of Zambia, so I can’t say what today’s content is. Unless I haven’t checked properly but there’s no single story on the shortage of ARVs in both the Post and Daily Mail despite the critical nature of the story and how much information in this regard is needed in the public. Now is the time for mainstream media to demonstrate their relevance by reporting the most important news of the day. The story of Chibesakunda is more political and personal than national and so is the old and tired story of MMD internal problems. By ignoring the ART story, mainstream media is behaving like a person who chooses to go to a theater club to watch a comedy show when the rest of his family members are heading to the hospital where his mother is lying critically ill in the ICU! This complicity with the political leadership is a betrayal of public trust and must be reversed immediately. The same media went to town over ZAMBEEF, why not go to town over a government that induces so many by-elections and never runs out of cash to fund them and yet can afford to see essential medicines run out?
