The birth of the Playstation brand was sparked by a failed business collaboration between Nintendo and Sony in the early 90s. Nintendo own proprietary technology in their ageing console SNES was showing but due to almost absolute power and dominancy over the entire gaming industry at that time Nintendo saw no rush to catch up to the technological advances in that timeline. They were rather relaxed and complacent over the idea of coming out with a new console even when they knew that SNES was ageing but it was still earning vast amount of money for the company and there were practically no other competitors in the industry to cause them to have a reason to panic. Nintendo want to have a new console but they were always not aggressive enough to actively pursue this goal. They tried to collaborate with Sony and Sony have actually developed out all the necessary specs components for a new console but Nintendo was kind of being cheap and was looking for maximum profits with the least amount of investment and profit sharing with others. They went back on their promise with Sony and choose to collaborate with Sony rival Phillips instead. Sony was angry and view it as an act of betrayal by Nintendo. Sony out of spite and vengeance against Nintendo then use their own technology property rights to build up a game system on their own. That console was call Playstation. All of a sudden Nintendo found that they have a much technologically advance rival in the market competing for market share and they are not quick enough to develop a new system to counter this development. To made matter worse Sony bait game studios and developers with low licensing fees of just $10 to develop games on Playstation rather than paying expensive licensing fees to Nintendo in order to have their games run on their system and cut short on their earnings. Many game studios and developers at that time already have a strained working relationship with Nintendo due to their overbearing ways but because Nintendo was the sole domineering force in the business they have no choice but to live with it. The cycle of monopolisation was broken by Sony Playstation arrival and many game developers and studios forsake Nintendo and made games for Sony instead. This is how the Sony game empire was born. What did you learn from this history? Never grow haughty and complacent on your past success and dont treat people shabbily because the wind will turn and fortunes will be reversed. No one is indispensable in this world. How come I get reminded of the white party when I see this words? It is because they are committing the same follies of others in the past. Once you fall sins to Pride and Greed you are paving the way toward your own demise.
