The book Im currently reading is discussing how the brain works. Specifically, intuition. Some intuition is inherent and some is learned. I immediately thought of how gaming in general and intuition relate. Some people can just pick up games well. I remember Gary first showed up with no experience with modern games. He jumped right into Puerto Rico and did fine. I never noticed any games fazing him. Some new players look like deer in the headlights with games active players regard as easy. They have to learn the intuitiveness others already have. For my own part, I recall several games that caused my brain to hurt when I first encountered them. Nightfall-it took me a while to develop an eye for the chaining with the moons. Glory to Rome-the multiple uses for cards and just how the game played were challenging. And Race for the Galaxy! Whoa! Talk about awkward with all that iconography! Now, however, Ive developed the intuitive sense to look at the cards in these games and know how to execute the gameplay. Intuition. Some have it, some dont. But we can all learn with repetition.
