The book of Exodus tells one of the greatest stories in the Bible as it talks about the Exodus of Israel. God used ten plagues to convince Pharoah that He should let the people go. That last plaque was the death angel going over Egypt and taking the lives of the first-born babies of the Egyptians. To prepare for this, God told Moses to tell the people of Israel to put blood on the door-posts of their homes. God said, When I see the blood I will pass over you (Exodus 12:13). So, as the death angel passed over the land, when he saw blood, he didnt take the lives of those children.. he only took lives where there was no blood. This verse highlights the importance of the blood for Christians. If you attend a Christian church, you probably have heard a song or two that talks about the blood of Jesus. You may have asked yourself, Why? Why is the blood so important? The Bible says that everyone has sinned; meaning, we have disobeyed God. And, the punishment for our disobedience is death and hell (Romans 6:23). So, everyone has sinned and we will be punished for our sin. So, how does man solve his sin problem? Well, man tries to be a good person but that doesnt work. The Bible says our righteousness is as filthy rags (Isa. 64:6) Man tries to give things. But that doesnt work.. man is still a sinner. So, man cant save himself. Man has to have a Savior. God knew that and God sent His Son to this earth. When Jesus was crucified, Jesus shed His blood and the blood that Jesus shed covers our sin. Now, you may ask, Why was blood necessary? You may even think, that sounds a little barbaric? The reason blood was necessary was because, as the Bible says......the life of the flesh is in the blood and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement (Lev 17:11). So, today, give thanks for the blood of Jesus that forgives us our sins... What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
