The boys got some time in the driveway paddock yesterday for the rare opportunity at eating some of the native grasses. The drought has been crippling out here but thankfully the horses are all thriving. Star loves any opportunity to touch noses with his favourite mare Kihelakayo. They have always had a close relationship and she seems as interested in him as he is in her. It will be many years before they get to run together though! Neosho also likes to greet his daughter but he never shows any interest in her like he does the other mares. Lacey made it very clear to Neo that she wasnt in season and so the boys all went back to grazing quietly. Later in the afternoon, after all the horses had finished their dinner, Scout came over to the fence and called to me. I got her halter and asked her if she wanted to go out. She walked over and dropped her head into it. We went for a lovely, slow bareback ride along the road as the sun went down and the air finally cooled giving relief to the crippling heat we have been experiencing. Scout grazed at her favourite spots and when we returned home again, Falcon was putting on a spectacular show. I laughed as he ran laps of the paddock paradise then leaped and bucked with joy, hardly able to contain his enthusiasm. He tried to get Neosho and Star to join in but to no avail. Undeterred, he took off again leaping in the air then spinning and returning back to the stallions who only had eyes for Scout at that point in time. Sunny is finally shedding out that terribly thick and hot foal coat to reveal some vivid leg barring and a lovely light dun colour. I am looking forward to seeing what he will look like when he is done shedding. His temperament is changing as the weeks pass and he is mellowing out to be very much like his full sister Kihela. It is so lovely to be able to watch this horse family grow together :)
