The building of Linwood Lawn coincided with the peak of prosperity - TopicsExpress

The building of Linwood Lawn coincided with the peak of prosperity and optimism for the future of Lexington. Consider the predictions of the editor in the November 26, 1859 edition of the Lexington Express: ...it requires no fertile imagination to see in the future of Lexington, a great city, second only to Saint Louis, for no other has advantages equal to her. Everything promises well, and we hazard nothing in saying that in five years from this day the city of Lexington will contain a population of 15 to 20,000. Its elevated location on the bluffs of the Missouri, as healthy as it is picturesque and beautiful, and on every account a most desirable place of residence. The editor was encouraged by the recent passage in the county of the railroad vote, for which he was a strong supporter.
