The butterflies started the night before. You checked the WOD - TopicsExpress

The butterflies started the night before. You checked the WOD (Work Out of the Day) just after 10:00 PM. The workout didn’t look too difficult, but then again they never do. You consider possible strategies on how best to attack this workout as you warm up. Do you pace yourself or go for broke? Do you try and keep up with someone else or do you take the lead? In the end, you know it doesn’t matter. You’ll push yourself as hard as you can for as long as you can. And if the next person is going at it harder, then you’ll dig even deeper to keep up. This place does that to you. The anticipation is really building now. You imagine that this is what a fighter must feel waiting for the bell to ring. Tension. Excitement. A bit of anxiety. You’re about to find out how tough you are both physically and mentally. The workout is scaled to each person’s ability to keep the “playing field” fair and the workout safe. Men and women, young and old, thick and thin… and every category in between are all represented. You smile nervously as you look around the room sizing up your competition. You’ll be friends afterwards; the kind of friends that can only be made when tested through sweat and tears. But right now you just want to leave them in your dust. Coach turns up the music and shouts, “GET READY!” The whole world quickly fades away as your mind and body snap to focus on the task at hand. This is happening… right now. There’s no time for fear. No time for doubt. Just do your best. That’s always enough. “3, 2, 1… GO!” This is CrossFit.
