The calm before the storm. Our Clipper type system is moving - TopicsExpress

The calm before the storm. Our Clipper type system is moving through the Ohio Valley today and expected to regenerate off the coast of Virginia tomorrow. From there it intensifies rapidly and moves SLOWLY up the New England Coast through Tuesday night. Anyone living northeast of a line from Pittsburgh PA to Cape May NJ should prepare for a very strong and prolonged snow storm starting tonight from West to East - ending Tuesday evening. This is a classic set up for blizzard like conditions in New England (New York City and points East and North) where 1-3 feet of snow seem likely. South and East from Philadelphia across New Jersey a foot, possibly a bit more seems likely. 50 miles either side of Philly will be the potential disappointment zone with much heavier amounts more likely on the North and East side of the city, less South and West. With intense Noreasters the moisture field gets pulled in closer to the center of the storm so these types of systems can produce 24 in one area and just 6 30 miles further West so the cutoff between an epic snow storm and a run of the mill snow event. There will be several enhanced bands of energy rotating around this storm which could bring a big burst of snow and then a lull and then more heavy snow. Weve added 6 images here to tell the whole story so hopefully we answered all your questions - whether you get 8 or 16+ is virtually impossible to say so prepare for the worst, hope for the best and be safe!
