The camels make the Proper Walk the adventure it is - they carry the food and water, pots and pans, tents and bags - all without complaint. Well that isnt exactly true - in the morning when they are being loaded, they do make sounds which are a cross between a complaint from Chewbacca and an outboard motor. Each day after the days Walk, they are let loose to graze on acacia trees with no tether. At night they are rounded up by the camel guys and tethered by a rope around their neck and front legs, all together in a group. This keeps them from getting frightened at night and running away. During the Walks, they will travel about 3 miles per hour and Walkers mantra is, Stay with the camels. The Walkers were off by 7:30 on a beautiful morning.
