The cat and I just heard the pitter patter of little feet on the front porch. It is extremely hard to see whats there since at the slightest of floor creak the little feet scatter off the porch and out of sight. We both managed to sneak quietly enough to the window to see a grey streak. Then, quietly watching, another grey streak. Then TWO grey streaks! It seems this morning were hosting the wild cotton tail rabbit gran prix on our front porch! LOL! Really!!! I tried very hard to get my camera and back to the window without alerting the contestants but sadly failed. Thinking I might catch them on the gravel outside I went to a different window and found FIVE wild rabbits scattered about. Of course I had set the camera down so I missed that picture too. Over the three years of living here again weve gone from no wild rabbits to an occasional one thru a slow increase to three and suspecting four. This is the first viewing of five at the same time. Rabbits breed profusely in the wild. The lack of naturally available food and the multiplicity of predators has kept their numbers from exploding. At one time I might have thought of eating the wild rabbits but not now. The biggest is nothing in comparison to our raised rabbits. With the current population explosion to five in the open at the same time we might need to reconsider feeding them so much. Finishing the rabbit proof fencing around the garden area is getting more important too. LOL. Were growing our own gardens demise! LOL
