The celebrant – HENRY-ELIAS OHEKURU, OCHI On Thursday, 4th October, 2012 at exactly 09:15am in Asokoro District Hospital, Abuja; the 1st child - a baby boy was born into Marx OCHI’s family. The 4th grandchild of Chief & Mrs OCHI queues behind Zarah, Nina and David respectively. He made his 1st journey on the day of birth from Abuja to Zuma Army Barracks where his maternal Grandmother (G-Mama) and aunt – Millie Agada Attu waited to offer the much needed intensive child care and support based on experience. About two weeks later, precisely on the 20th October, 2012; he was Christened – Henry-Elias Ohekuru. Afterwards, he relocated with G-Mama to Kaduna for an extended intensive care, commonly known as “Omugo” where he remained till 4th December, 2012 when he returned to Abuja - his birthplace and residence. Henry-Elias Ohekuru enrolled in the Staff Day Care programme at the prestigious FAMAKS International School, Asokoro where his Mum works on 7th January, 2013 when he turned 3 months and was dedicated to The Almighty GOD on 4th February, 2012 at the Living Faith Church, Kubwa at exactly 4 months. He made his longest trip from Abuja to Benue on 29th March, 2013 to visit his paternal Grand-parents. At this point, not only were the pair of his fore teeth visible, he craved solid food and made effort to crawl as he could now coordinate his body more effectively. After the short and exciting holiday, Henry-Elias Ohekuru returned to Abuja on 7th April, 2012 and continued the Day Care programme as his Mum resumed work. Again, he travelled to Kaduna on 4th August, 2013 and spent part of the long summer holidays with his maternal Grand-parents where he met cousins who made his holiday worthwhile. While in Kaduna, he perfected his balance and learnt to walk with the aid of G-Mama’s stool which he pushed about in the spacious sitting room. He returned to Abuja on 28th August, 2013 after 24 days and has since resumed the Day Care programme. He plans to enroll for the Pre-School/Early Years programme at the prestigious FAMAKS International School, Asokoro where he intends to launch his academic pursuit along with about 250 pupils under the tutelage of over 30 professional educators. He enjoys watching Barney, Alvin and the Chipmunk and The Muppets and likes listening to nursery rhymes and stories from the book titled ‘Up-Side Down Town’ which his Mum often read to him during bed time. His favourite foods are Semo/Ogbono soup and Noodles but he eats virtually any food he finds his parents eating, he is often not disposed to drinking his bottle water, instead “Sachet Water” has remained the “forbidden fruit” which he will stop at nothing until he partakes. He is particularly fond of sticking his right thumb in his mouth especially when he is bored and sleepy. He likes independence and often struggles with his Mum to feed himself even though he is unable to get the spoon with its contents to his mouth. He is smart and intelligent – At the sound of his Mum’s ringing phone, he looks towards the Kitchen where she usually is. He is always beaming with smile; very sensitive and agile, he enjoys physically challenging tasks – He is particularly fond of climbing the bedside window burglary proof and screaming in excitement of the view outside, he has fallen off the bed a couple times and learnt his lesson; he likes outdoor activities and is pretty much attracted to light and brilliant colours. He is very inquisitive and adventurous but one mystery he is yet to unravel is the moving Fan which fascinates him a great deal as he watches with awe. He is a happy-go-lucky kid whose company you will find interesting anytime; he is indiscriminate but particularly oriented towards open arms and a smiling face. Unlike most kids, save for when he is hungry, he would rather play with a funny companion than cling to his Mum. He is strong and healthy and has never taken ill, even at the usual crucial period of teething and as such has never been hospitalized; he is a neat kid and often times manifests signs of discomfort once his regular bath time is up, he enjoys warm bath but hates when soap and water is applied on his head – bathing him requires great skill, fortunately his Dad has the expertise. He uses the native soap popularly called “Black Soap” and the traditional Palm Kernel Oil known as “Orifi” which is largely responsible for his smooth and glowing skin …thanks to both Grandmothers whose wise and experienced counsel informed this outcome. He uses baby spray and started using the cologne – Kenneth Cole-BLACK at 7 months. He is being groomed to become a gentleman with an excellent dress sense as he is always elegant …thanks to his Mum. The celebrant - HENRY-ELIAS OHEKURU OCHI has had a pretty remarkable experience since birth; not only has he been with us for 365 days, he has inspired faith and hope in us and all with whom he has had personal encounter, infecting them with his contagious and charming smile. Son, watching you grow from a helpless baby to a strong and intelligent boy in the arms of a caring and loving Mum remains the most inspiring experience …we cherish every moment and look forward to an awesome future! CONGRATULATIONS & HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUDDIE! -DAD- On the occasion of Henry-Elias ‘Kuru, OCHI’s 1st birthday anniversary (04th October, 2013)
