The center of poorly organized Tropical Storm Bertha is moving into the eastern Dominican Republic, and at 5 p.m. EDT/AST was located about 90 miles east of Santo Domingo. Maximum sustained winds are 45 mph. Little change in strength through Sunday is expected, but some slow strengthening is possible on Monday. Tropical Storm Warnings and Watches continue in effect along the forecast path of Bertha. Tropical storm conditions should subside over Puerto Rico during the next few hours, but are expected over the eastern Dominican Republic tonight, and the Southeastern Bahamas and Turks & Caicos Islands by early Sunday. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches, with isolated amounts up to 5 inches, are expected across portions of the Leeward Islands, the British and U.S. Virgin Islands, eastern portions of the Dominican Republic, and the Turks & Caicos Islands through Sunday Night. Rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches, with isolated amounts of 8 inches, are possible across Puerto Rico - with the heaviest totals occurring on the southern and eastern portions of the island.
