The central feature of the holiday of Sukkot is happiness. Sukkot - TopicsExpress

The central feature of the holiday of Sukkot is happiness. Sukkot is called "the time of our happiness." The Torah gave Sukkot this moniker primarily due to agricultural reasons. During this time of year, a farmer has completed his harvest and his warehouses are filled with the produce of his fields. He feels good and is happy. But the joy that results from abundance is not enough in and of itself. The Torah wants us to channel that joy to give recognition to the source of that abundance, and therefore requires of us: "And you shall rejoice before Hashem your G-d seven days" (Leviticus 23:40). Stop, look, and observe. Who is the source of your abundance, who directed the winds, and moved the clouds. Who brought down the rain. Take note of the source of the entire World’s abundance. Who provides you with all your blessings and who gives vitality to all living things and sustains the entire World
