The check I write every year to our fiscally responsible government is the most money I ever spend in one place at one time. This is far more money than I ever spend on myself or anything I am passionate about. To me the amount is quite substantial but to our government its merely a fraction of one drop in very very large bucket... The idea of tax does not bother me; I am aware of the services, institutions and infrastructures that are created and maintained from this revenue. What bothers me is that I have no faith that this money I am required to hand over ever year is utilized anywhere near its potential. When I constantly see public schools closing, the streets riddled with potholes, public transit that is often dysfunctional and you can still go bankrupt just by getting sick and needing medical attention in this country its really really difficult for me to envision the money from this check getting funneled to where it really needs to go.
