The church today is prim and proper. It meets in big buildings, the people wear suits and nice dresses, pray out of a Prayer Book, sing out of a hymn book and look solemn. There are often ushers, a procession, Bible reading, short sermon and choirs in gowns. It is dead as a door knob. On the other hand, the people in the Old Testament threw their hands up to heaven, bowed down, fell to their knees and laid prostrate before the Lord. And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground. Neh. 8:6. David danced before the Lord with abandon. And David danced before the Lord with all his might; .... 2 Sam. 6:14. He prayed with hands raised to heaven: Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up hands toward thy holy oracle. Psa. 28:2. The New Testament saints did the same. I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. 1 Tim. 2:8. There is a time for silence, and a time for shouting. God instructed Joshua to have the mighty men of valor walk around Jericho once for six days with the priests blowing their trumpets. On the seventh day, they circled the city seven times and the priests blew their trumpets. At the end of the seventh time, the people shouted with a great shout, and the walls of the city fell down flat. Joshua 6:1-21. There are many scriptures that tell us to shout for joy. God shouts from heaven. These Bible passages are too numerous to mention. When the early church came together to pray for Peter and John, they rocked the building. And when they prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. Acts 4:31. Christians prayed and worshiped with passion from the heart. Clapping, raising hands to heaven, dancing, bowing, getting on your knees and lying prostrate on the floor on your face are Christian expressions of adoration and love. What would you do if the Lord Jesus suddenly appeared before you? Would you just shake hands?
