The circle is now finally complete. My human rights activism was greatly inspired by the courage of the civil rights leaders. My work is now complete, so Ive passed the baton on to the next generation of activists. I give Congress a lot of shit, but there actually are a handful of good ones still serving our country. Unfortunately, they truly have become a rare and dying breed. It was such an honor to finally meet Georgia Congressman John Lewis and talk to him in person. He has always been one of my biggest heroes, and he said three simple words that changed my life: Keep the faith! Inter-racial marriage was made legal in 1967, but it was only in the year 2000 that my home state of Alabama finally made the change to the state constitution. Until recently, it was still illegal to be an Indian in Alabama. Justice and equality are rarely achieved on our own time schedule, but we have to stay focused on the goal and strive to change the world.
