The city I work in Kingston, NY is full of original 18th century buildings. Thought folks here may enjoy seeing a couple. This house served as New Yorks 1st Senate House in 1777. Purportedly built in early 18th century, The fledgling independent New York State govt rented the senate chamber from local merchant, and fervent patriot. Abraham Van Gaasbeek. The Senate Fled shortly before this house and Kingston and was burnt by British regulars in October of that year. That came shortly after Burgoynes surrender at Saratoga. Fortunately the stone and brick walls kept it from being a total loss. And the wood parts were rebuilt and it stands to this day.
