The city of Detroit filed for bankruptcy this week. This should not be looked at as one-off failure due to various difficult circumstances, but instead as a warning of what the entire country could look like one day if it continues on its current trajectory. It took a lot of bad decisions to ruin a city as glorious as Detroit was in the 1950’s. The same bad decisions are being made daily nearly everywhere all over the entire country. Historians will debate the cause of Detroits’ demise, whether it was labor unions or Democrat politicians or crime which drove taxpaying citizens to the suburbs, but whichever becomes the ultimate scapegoat, all these nuts fall from the same tree. People looking to live off of others caused a great city to crumble. The labor unions made outlandish demands that could be subsidized while the Germans and Japs were rebuilding their destroyed factories, but were suicidal when foreigners were able to compete again in the auto industry. The corrupt Democrat politicians promised future benefits they had no idea how to finance, but didn’t care. It would be someone else’s problem long after the politicians won re-election for phony promises. The criminals are simply the lowest common denominator of the equation. They don’t try to justify why they take other peoples’ money, they just do it. Detroit is a showcase for what happens after consecutive generations of living in unchecked envy. The producers fled to places that had more respect for their property, the factories moved to places where the unions had less influence and the mooches remained in place wondering what the hell went wrong. This may be the Leftists’ dream, but it is Americas’ nightmare.
