The civil society of Kishtwar has termed the inquiry committees - TopicsExpress

The civil society of Kishtwar has termed the inquiry committees constituted by the puppet administration to probe communal violence in the area as mere eyewash. Anjuman-i-Islamia Kishtwar, an amalgam of traders and civil society, has said that the puppet regime was shielding the culprits who instigated the communal violence in Kishtwar town on August 9, this year. Vice President of Anjuman-i-Islamia Kishtwar, Riyaz Ahmad, addressing a press conference in Srinagar said that members of the so-called Village Defence Committees had unleashed terror in the region. “The people who were behind the killings in Kishtwar are roaming free and have resumed their day to day work. Even the persons who have been identified by the people for their role in instigating violence are untouched. On the contrary, the administration is stating that they are absconding. If the authorities are sincere we can help them to arrest the culprits,” he said. He said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the puppet regime “is a time consuming exercise aimed to divert attention from the real facts.” “SIT has not recorded the statements of the victims and neither has it seemed interested in listening to our pleas. We have run out of options that is the reason we traveled so far to Srinagar to highlight our plight,” he added. Meanwhile, the High Court Bar Association of the territory in a meeting assured the visiting delegation from Kishtwar of all possible legal help and assistance in having a fair, impartial and independent investigation into the communal violence. The delegation told the Bar members that dozens of Muslim youth were arrested and implicated in false cases but not a single member of the Hindu community or VDC had been arrested, so far. The delegation members stated that all Muslim youth had run away from the area to evade their arrest at the hands of the police because they were being pestered and tried to be booked in false cases. They requested the High Court Bar Associations of Kashmir and Jammu to come to their rescue and file a Public Interest Litigation in the High Court for ordering an impartial and thorough probe in the matter.
