The clock stroke 12am, you couldnt sleep. The fear of the unknown - not knowing what to expect. You had doubts about your results. Biting your nails, you even swallow your saliva. The tension rises as you see your school mates post on social media saying Thank God I made it. You have a little hope that maybe you did well since others from your school did too. You dont make a rush to the nearest store to buy papers to see if your exam number appears or not. You remembered Eish there were some subjects I didnt write well then your heart start to pump faster as you search for your exam number. You keep searching for it but it doesnt seem to appear. You think maybe you didnt check well. You do the same process more than 5 times. Still! Then you ask yourself what did I do wrong? Listen, before you think of anything. I want you to know this. You are powerful and influential. Your name and exam number might not have appeared on the papers as you expected but understand that failure is nothing but a stepping stone to success. Yes you didnt make it, but the papers didnt say you are a failure. They just said you can do better next time. Some of us have disappointed our parents, friends, families and communities in the past. They expected so much from us but we never delivered. But that didnt stop us from being who God has called us to be. We are the best today because we had to go through failure and humiliation in order to be the best. I never achieved my matric with distinctions as many thought I would, but I made damn sure that varsity knows who I am. I am now a guest lecturer, came out with flying colours and I say this not to brag to tell you that failure is just but a stepping stone to greater things you can achieve. Only if you are willing and obedient to learn from your failures. You might say OK Abuti Rams I hear you with your motivational mambo jambo. So what should I do now? Listen I always say that the first step to success is after failing is to admit that you have failed. That is one of the hardest thing any human being can do but you must understand that failure to admit failure leads to more failure. Be honest with yourself that Yes I have failed but I am not a failure. Then you go back and find out what can you do better to move from your state. You the become innovative about your situation. You create ways where there seems to be no way. You give yourself time to reboot the system! Start afresh. Think beyond the obvious. The box is too limiting. Think outside of it. Find people who made it. Ask them how they did it. Swallow your pride and learn from them. Learn and dont you stop learning. Be ahead of your teachers. Always learn even things that are beyond what the subject teaches. Before you know it, you will be a guru at it. Wipe the tears from your eyes because heroes never give up. They rise up and face the greatest challenges. Stay powerful! #PowerTalk by Abuti Rams
