The cloistered Dominican Sisters of the Perpetual Rosary was founded in 1891 in West Hoboken (now Union City), New Jersey by Damien M. Saintourens, OP. This monastery originated from a convent that Saintourens and Mother Rose of St Mary, OP established in Calais, France. The Union City sisters founded five other monasteries in New Jersey, Maryland, New York, and Wisconsin. The monastery itself is called Blue Chapel after its blue tinted windows. Currently there is a debate about whether or not the building should be placed on a state or national historic building registry.
