The clothing industry and pollution; 4 minutes There was a time when people had lush beautiful gardens freely given by nature to feed them. There was a time when they could drink from the streams and breathe fresh, clean air. There was a time when they honored the gift of the earth from their creator and lived with harmony, balance, and respect of all other life. We are the descendants of those people. They must weep for us. The destruction of our planet and our living environments is the most serious threat we face, as Americans, and as fellow human beings on this planet. Every other threat, no matter how it is played, can’t compare to the seriousness and danger of what we have allowed, and participated in, and still do. After learning the truth about what weve been doing, Im not sure if I am more shocked at the psychopathic greed that has fueled this, or that a people could be so blinded by advertising and Santa Claus that they would have no idea the true cost of their products. We have poisoned the very planet that sustains us, and maybe worse, we have poisoned ourselves, and we continue to blindly do so. Like most Americans, I grew up believing the propaganda about the safety of our products. I believed our government agencies were protecting us. I remember those in my youth that tried to warn us but we were told that they were extremist and studies were inconclusive, and even with long term studies in they continue to use those same lies, and people still buy them. What the hell is wrong with us? It doesnt take expert studies to see that things have gone very wrong. People werent sick when I was a kid, not even old people, and especially not kids. Even with insurance, the doctor was a once a year check-up, with maybe a trip for strep throat after playing out in the cold too long. Almost every illness that our children suffer and die from is caused from our toxic environment. Is our way of life worth it? Can you look at the picture of a child dying of cancer or suffering from one of the numerous ailments and still feel the same way about shopping? What is needed so badly that it is worth one childs life? Our alphabet agencies say that they are “acceptable risks in the need to balance the public health with the needs of the economy.” Would it be an acceptable risk if it were your child or grandchild? Would it be an acceptable risk if it was you? It is you, and it is me, and it is your children and grandchildren. The destruction is so invasive that no one, anywhere in the world, can escape its effects. There are some that believe that we have passed a tipping point, that it’s too late to save our species from destruction. I say that it is worth a try, and the sooner we get started, and the more that get involved, the better. The choice is in our hands. We can keep listening to the spin doctors who sell us lies, wars, and toxic products for profit and power, or, we can realize that we have other choices. There are lots of people waking up to reality and getting involved in making this world a safer, healthier, more joyful, freer place. You can be part of that. The road we go down will be our own choosing, and the time is now to choose. We can continue to be destroyers, all the way to our own destruction, or we can begin to be the creators, living in harmony with the earth and each other, that we were meant to be. Remember, the choice you make now you’re making for your children and grandchildren. We all have a choice. We all can make a difference.
