The comedian Jim Gaffigan noted that if ice cream is mentioned - TopicsExpress

The comedian Jim Gaffigan noted that if ice cream is mentioned anywhere in the vicinity of a child, the child will fixate on the desire for ice cream to the exclusion of everything else. This is true even if there is no actual ice cream at hand, nor was the original reference in any way related to the child now driving the closest caregiver nuts. The following is an actual conversation between Caelan and I. ME: Caelan what kind of sandwich do you want in your lunch tomorrow? CAELAN: Im ready for my ice cream now! ME: That is not what I asked, what kind of sandwich do you want for lunch tomorrow? CAELAN: But I want ice cream. ME: I heard you. We are not discussing ice cream. We do not have ice cream. If you dont tell me what kind of sandwich you want, you loose the option to choose. CAELAN: I heard you and dad talking about ice cream. Can we get some? I want some ice cream. ME: Dad and I were discussing Camerons birthday treat, not anything to do with today. You are getting a cheese sandwich in your lunch tote tomorrow. CAELAN: Fine. Can we get some ice cream now? ME: (Long drawn out sigh.)
