The coming of Ebola patients to facilities in the US shows the - TopicsExpress

The coming of Ebola patients to facilities in the US shows the superior qualitative capacity of our health care system, but our quantitative capacity is far from the best. The United States comes in at less than half the patient capacity than even France and Belgium with 3.05 hospital beds per thousand population, compared to Japans superior 13.4/thousand according to a 2014 study by the Organization for Economic Cooperation. We actually have less hospitals now than we did in 1975. (statista/statistics/185843/number-of-all-hospitals-in-the-us-since-2001/_) In Nebraska, the issue is sensitive. We now have our second Ebola patient admitted, and the population is skeptical of our capabilities to even handle such a thing. While our capability has already been proven with the release of our first patient, our system may be in danger in the future if the current Nebraska US Senate race rolls down the road of austerity (which it may very well already be). Current Twitter trends on Ebola in Nebraska show why: If he wins, will Ben #Sasse collude w/ GOP to shutdown the govt, sequester, and continue to cut funding to #NIH in an era of #Ebola? #nesen #Ebola shows us that our #healthcare system is strong up front, but brittle. We have yet to meet the Hill-Burton hospital standards. #nesen #Ebola shows us we cant tolerate stunts of sequesters, shutting down the govt, & austerity cuts to the #NIH. danfornebraska/ #nesen Listen to the latest United Front Radio broadcast on Ebola to hear more: youtube/watch?v=BxETJAL3RXg#t=3071
