The commander of the 98th Training Division (Initial Entry Training) will be the guest speaker at a Women’s History Month observance at 11 a.m. Aug. 26 at the Benning Club. Brig. Gen. Michaelene “Mikey” Kloster will address the theme, “Celebrating Women’s Right to Vote,” and share her thoughts and insight into the contributions that women have made to the Army. Kloster began her military career in June 1984 after earning a commission as a second lieutenant through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Delaware where she was a distinguished military graduate. She is also a graduate of the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Delaware, a Master of Science in Management and a Doctorate in Business Administration. The 98th Training Division (IET), a U.S. Army Reserve unit, moved from Rochester, N.Y. to Fort Benning in July 2012. Rochester had been the unit’s headquarters for more than 45 years. Since Sept. 11, 2001, the unit has been called on repeatedly to support the War on Terror and overseas contingency operations. The 98th deployed in 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to train new Iraqi army and security forces. Soldiers of the 98th Training Division have established Army training schools at Kirkush Military Training Base and have trained Iraqi police, highway patrol, special police commandos and border police. The 98th maintains command and control of four brigades throughout 12 eastern states and Puerto Rico.
